FREE CITY JAZZ AND POETRY - LUNCHTIME CONCERTS

EVERY FRIDAY 1PM - 2PM AT VUYISILE MINI SQUARE

Taking place every Friday between 1PM and 2PM on the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th September, the Vuyisile Mini Square will become a hub of live music and entertainment. Listen out for the Asanda Mqiki band that will be the anchor band, and will be working and collaborating with a variety of performers.

 

FREE GUIDED TOUR OF ROUTE 67

EVERY FRIDAY AT 1PM FROM THE CAMPANILE

The Route 67 is a celebration of Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of public life and meanders through our city’s CBD to view 67 giant steps and 67 public art pieces by 67 local Eastern Cape artists. Visitors on the guided tour will be taken past some of the Bay’s oldest monuments, art deco architecture and a series of open-air artworks. A combined experience of visual arts, urban design and heritage assets aims at uniting all segments of a formerly divided community and showing the world what magic exists in the post-apartheid era. Free guided tours will be held every Friday afternoon at 1pm from the Campanile (next to the bus station). Limited availability, bookings essential. SPRING COLOUR DASH

6TH SEPTEMBER, 12PM TO 6PM: STARTING AT TRINDER SQUARE

This is a dash with a difference; a celebration of a South African spring, our love for arts, colour, fashion and the promotion of good health. It is a bold and colourful event that seeks to embrace and connect our diverse cultures by encouraging us to laugh at ourselves, laugh with one another and to create healthy relationships. With social cohesion, creating employment and vibrancy at its core, this light-hearted event aims to launch Nelson Mandela Bay as the most preferred tourist destination in the Eastern Cape. Wish You Were Here is a series of exhibitions of artworks featuring the NMB with the goal of promoting both the NMB and local visual artists. The opening exhibition will be held at the Athenaeum on Friday 19 September 2014, and the main exhibition will run until Friday 17 October 2014. URBAN RUN FESTIVAL

20-21 SEPTEMBER AT THE DONKIN

This 10km non-timed urban obstacle course which starts and finishes on the Donkin Reserve is to raise funds for local charities with the emphasis on having fun. The urban obstacles are designed to have you running, scrambling, climbing, and dangling as you run against the backdrop of our iconic city centre.
